Chinese Rocks - Johnny Thunders - Have Faith (CD, Album)

by Arashizuru

  1. Johnny Thunders. Johnny Thunders (July 15, – April 23, ), born John Anthony Genzale, Jr., was an American rock and roll/punk rock guitarist, singer and songwriter. He came to prominence in the early s as a member of the New York Dolls. He later played with .
  2. Johnny Thunders Have Faith. This CD comes from a live show in Tokyo, Sound is very good and the band is right on target. Nothing new in terms of material though. Just the regular stuff done well. Mutiny Records re-released this with a new mix and it sounds much better. The sound is much fuller and there is more emphasis on the rhythm section.
  3. Containing unreleased versions of various songs, this is rock n' roll as pure as Johnny's heroin (or maybe not!). 4 tracks from the legendary Speakeasy gig in London '77 are just insanely great. 3 tracks from the Lyceum gig in '84 (why were they left of the live album??) are great combined with Thunders' Noo Yawk drawling swipes at the audience/5(21).
  4. The Replacements included a song about Johnny Thunders, "Johnny's Gonna Die", on their first album. The Mats also had a song called "Dose of Thunder" on their "Tim" album. Alex Chilton in his song "Bangkok" sings the lines "I'm not living on Chinese rocks, I'm in Bangkok." A small tribute and allusion to Johnny Thunders.
  5. Having sat through so many dull Thunders live solo LPs, Have Faith is the exceptional surprise. Guess that when the late Johnny went to Japan, he'd finally put together a serious band, 'cause this Tokyo show (three years before his expected yet untimely death) sounds tight, hard, and focused.

  7. The first, Billy Murcia, he accidently OD’d on Mandrax. Johnny and Jerry, they’re junkies and they celebrate their stupidity with songs like ‘Chinese Rocks’ and ‘Too Much Junkie Bizness’. The Heartbreakers collapse. At a party for Patti Smith, Johnny Thunders asks you to be his manager.
